WHERE IS JAY AND WHAT HAS HE BEEN UP TOO
Update 7/2015; I have made several trips to northern Arizona, Moab Utah, and Silverton & Telluride Colorado for motorcycling. Finally checked off riding on Black Bear pass, more than a dozen other 11k+ elevation mountain passes, and Monument Valley AZ off my bucket list. Below are motorcycling and hiking pictures of the Prescott AZ area.
Update: As of September 2014, I officially moved from Seattle WA to Prescott AZ metro area and loving it. This area is filled with hiking, biking, and off road motorcycling recreation and a variety of landscape to ride in; low hot desert, high cool desert, steep rocky mountains, and deep V canyons plush with vegetation.
Features of Chino Valley:
-- There are NO compact parking spots in any of parking lots because 60% of vehicles are pickup trucks - - most being 4x4.
-- That is NOT a banana in their pockets - - why? it is very common for folks to carry concealed weapons or open carry. Love that.
-- The mild temperatures allow for motorcycling 9 months and hike 12 month.
-- Gunsite Academy is 15 minutes up the freeway (http://www.gunsite.com/).
-- Church's are full on Sunday's.
-- C.V and Yavapai County is a deep Republican Conservative area.
Chino Valley (~4.9k elevations) is a small town catering to farms and ranches. It has 1 main road (Highway 89), about 4 dozen retail businesses, and allows horses and ATV's to travel on the main streets and park at the retail store parking lots to shop. Oh, there are NO compact parking in any parking lots and 60% are pickup trucks. Yes - no one yelling at me when I park my truck - which happened in Seattle
Chino is a high desert town with plenty of small mountains, sage brush and cactus making up the landscape. The average house yard is 1 full acre and within a few 100 feet of the town are a lot of large farms and cow \ horse ranches. Many roads are still dirt, and most homes outside of town get their water from wells or water truck delivery services. See more of other nearby cities below.

My favorite playgrounds near by:
-- Williams is 45 minutes away and Flagstaff is 2 hours away which both see snow each year.

-- Locket Meadows is my favorite primitive campground as I visit it several times a year. Located at 8450ft elevation.
-- Moab Utah and Silverton Colorado are about 7 hours away and both are my favorite places to play. Moab UT offers the "white rim trail" and Silverton CO is a hub for high mountain off road motorcycling and 4x4 adventures. I visit both often.

-- Las Vegas is less than 4 hours and Death Valley is less than 5 hours. I have visited both and plan to return.
Prescott (~5.3k elevation)
Prescott (~5.3k elevation) is the old big town next to CV. It has all of the large shopping centers, restaurants, and tourist services a big town has. It also has the old historic centers (Whiskey Row) that attracts more people than the new shopping areas do. It is surrounded by high desert valleys and steep forested mountains. It has two large lakes that are circled by large house size climbing boulders. Hiking and mountain biking paths are everywhere.

Both are surrounded by mountains and deep V canyons and within a 25 minutes drive you reach very high mountains (~8k elevation). Horses, Off road motorcycles, ATV's, UTV's, Mountain bikes, and Jeeps are owned by most citizens. It snows every year but by mid day it is melted everywhere but the high mountains.
The Grand Canyon national park and Sedona, Flagstaff, and Jerome are several local tourist towns that are a must to visit.

In summary I enjoy the slow friendly pace of this area and playing in the surrounding areas and feel very much at home.
